Nature & Scope of Environmental Studies : Chapter 1 : Important Questions & Answers
Q. What is environmental science?
Answer: Study of inter-relationships between living and non-living things is called environmental science.
Q. Define Biosphere? Explain it's divisions.
Answer: Biosphere is defined as part of earth and atmosphere in which many smaller ecosystems exist and operate.
The main sub-divisions of biosphere are:
1- Lithosphere (solid matter)
2- Hydrosphere (Liquid Matter)
3- Atmosphere (Gaseous Matter)
Q. Define Atmosphere. Explain it's layers.
Answer: Atmosphere may be defined as transparent gaseous envelop surrounding the earth.
Layers of atmosphere are:
1.Troposphere: It extends from surface of earth upto a height of 8 to 10 km. In this layer, the percentage concentration of different gases in air does not vary with an increase in height.
2. Stratosphere: This layer is above the troposphere and free from clouds and aeroplanes usually fly in lower zone.
3. Exosphere: It lies beyond 400km. The air density is very low in this layer and temperature increases at this layer.
Q. What is meant by Humidity?
Answer:
Thee amount off water or moisture in air is called humidity.
Q. In what ways temperature affects plants and animals.
Answer: The temperature affects plants and animals:
1. It affects metabolism in plants and animals.
2. The reproduction in animals and flowering in plants is also affected.
3. It also influences the growth and development.
