Q. Write any three short note.
1) Write characteristics of democracy.
Answer: Democracy is a form of government that is based on the principles of equality, freedom, and justice. Some of the key characteristics of democracy include political equality, rule of law, popular sovereignty, respect for human rights, and free and fair elections. In a democratic system, citizens have the right to participate in the political process, express their views, and hold their elected representatives accountable. Democracy is also characterized by the separation of powers between the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches of government, which acts as a check and balance system to prevent the abuse of power.
2) President
Answer: In a democratic system, the President is the head of state and represents the country in international affairs. The President is elected by an electoral college and serves as a ceremonial figurehead with limited executive powers. The President is responsible for appointing the Prime Minister and other high-ranking officials, as well as signing bills into law. In some countries, the President may also have veto power over legislation passed by the parliament. The role and powers of the President vary from country to country, but in a democratic system, the President is accountable to the people through the democratic process.
3) Loksabha
Answer: The Lok Sabha is the lower house of the Indian Parliament and is composed of members elected by the people through direct elections. The Lok Sabha is responsible for passing bills and resolutions, and the members of the Lok Sabha are known as Members of Parliament (MPs). The Lok Sabha has a total of 545 members, of which 543 are elected through direct elections and two are appointed by the President of India to represent the Anglo-Indian community. The tenure of the Lok Sabha is five years, but it can be dissolved earlier by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is the presiding officer and is responsible for maintaining order and conducting the business of the house.
4) 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments
Answer: 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments:
The 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments were introduced in 1992 and provide for a three-tier system of Panchayati Raj (for rural areas) and Nagarpalikas (for urban areas) respectively. The 73rd Amendment made provisions for the establishment of Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zila Parishads, while the 74th Amendment made provisions for the establishment of Nagarpalikas. These amendments aimed to decentralize power and promote local self-governance. The Panchayats and Nagarpalikas are responsible for local governance, including the implementation of developmental programs and the provision of basic services such as water supply, sanitation, and healthcare.5) Governance
Answer: Governance refers to the process of decision-making and the implementation of policies and programs by the government. Good governance is characterized by transparency, accountability, participation, and the rule of law. It involves the effective management of public resources and the provision of basic services to citizens. The quality of governance has a significant impact on the socio-economic development of a country. Effective governance requires a strong institutional framework, a competent and professional bureaucracy, and an informed and active citizenry.
6) Types of Democracy
Answer: There are several types of democracy, including direct democracy, representative democracy, and liberal democracy. Direct democracy involves the direct participation of citizens in decision-making processes, while representative democracy involves the election of representatives to make decisions on behalf of the people. Liberal democracy emphasizes the protection of individual rights and freedoms, and the rule of law. Other types of democracy include parliamentary democracy, presidential democracy, and federal democracy. Each type of democracy has its strengths and weaknesses, and the choice of the type of democracy depends on the specific context and circumstances of a country.
